A Message from the Interim Principal
Since arriving at the Bishop of Rochester Academy at the end of April 2011, I have been enormously impressed by the conscientious attitude of the staff and the desire of the students to do their best. The sheer number of staff and students for example, who are regularly working at the Academy outside of the normal school hours is simply amazing. The quality of teaching is rapidly improving. Weekly training sessions to improve teaching even further are taking place for all staff, and this will impact significantly on pupil progress. The new building, due to open in 2013, will add further impetus to our work as the students and staff see its development as construction begins in October 2011. These are, without doubt, exciting times for the Academy and I feel honoured to be able to play my part.
On behalf of the Governing Body of the Academy, I am delighted to let you know that Mr Colin Boxall, an experienced secondary head teacher, has been appointed as the new Principal for the Bishop of Rochester Academy. This is excellent news for the Academy. Mr Boxall has a significant track record of success as a head teacher, and has demonstrated an ability to generate rapid educational progress. We are confident that he will lead the Academy successfully and build substantially on our recent improvements. He has a very good understanding of the Christian ethos of the school.
Mr Boxall is expected to start full time at the academy in early 2012 and during the transitional period will of course work closely with Mr Andy Reese. I am sure that there will be informal opportunities for staff to welcome Mr Boxall to our Academy before he takes up his post. Mr Boxall said “I am really excited about joining the Bishop of Rochester Academy, and looking forward to meeting staff and pupils – and working closely with parents and the local community.”
