About the Academy
Opened in September 2010 and based in Chatham, we are a Church of England Academy, specialising in Maths with ICT, and Music. Maths and ICT will be essential skills for employment in the 21st century and the student will do projects in which they will learn how these are used in the world of work. The subjects will also teach logical thinking and attention to detail. When it comes to Music, there will be opportunities to learn and perform, using everything from traditional instruments to cutting edge electronic resources. Students will look at modern music technology, and the subject will be more exciting than they perhaps imagined. The focus on Music will give students the opportunity to develop confidence and presentation skills, while taking part in it can also bring a great deal of enjoyment.
Like any academy, we have sponsors. Our lead sponsor is the Rochester Diocesan Board for Education, the second is Canterbury Christ Church University and the third is Medway Council. The sponsors, through the Governing Body, are responsible for overall leadership including appointing staff, and for taking key decisions about the type of academy they want.
Excellence and entitlement
At the Bishop of Rochester Academy we aim to achieve two things - Excellent Behaviour and Outstanding Teaching and Learning. We seek to encourage high academic achievement and, by providing innovative courses supported by up-to-date technology, look to improve young people’s opportunities in higher education and employment.
