Christian Ethos

At the heart of the Academy is our Christian Ethos. Our ethos is based around the idea of "Ruah" - the hebrew word for breath. We believe that each and every member of the Academy community has something to contribute, and something that they can take from the academy - just like breathing in, and breathing out. Ruah also represents the values which are at the heart of the way in which we want the members of the Academy treat each other. These values are Respect, Understanding, Affection, and Humour.

At the Academy, we seek to create an environment in which students and staff feel able to explore and express their beliefs. Based on the values of RUAH, we aim to make opportunities for collective worship in those of the all faiths and none find time to reflect on their own beliefs and spirituality.

All pupils attend an Act of Worship each week, and each daily school time includes the opportunity for a time of reflection.

We appreciate that for many students, many aspects of the Christian Ethos of the Academy will be unfamiliar, and therefore initially uncomfortable. However, over time we hope to reassure students that rather than forcing them to believe certain things, or act in certain ways, we are merely providing opportunities for them to investigate what they themselves believe.
